For foreign non‑residents it costs USD 800, for foreign residents USD 700, and for East African citizens the fee is about UGX 300,000. These permits are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and are valid for trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is an exciting yet safe adventure, thanks to strict safety protocols enforced by the Rwanda Development Board and conservation organizations. These measures protect both visitors and the gorillas. To ensure a secure experience, trekkers are required to follow the rules and instructions given by the lead guide. Observing these guidelines helps maintain the safety and well-being of everyone during this extraordinary forest encounter.

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is available throughout the year, but the optimal times to visit are during the dry seasons, from June to September and December to February. These months provide the best trekking conditions and are favored by most travelers. The wet season, or low season, can be less popular due to muddy trails and rain, but it offers advantages such as lower prices and smaller crowds for those seeking a quieter experience.
